The Vjosa / Aoos River Ecomuseum project is funded by EU and National Funds within the framework of the IPA Cross-border Programme “Greece-Albania, 2007-2013”. The project is being implemented by four organisations, the Mediterranean Institute for Nature and Anthropos (Med-INA), Pindos Perivallontiki, the Institute of Nature Conservation in Albania (INCA) and the Forest Directorate in Permet.
The Mediterranean Institute for Nature and Anthropos (Med-INA) is based in Athens and aims to contribute to the integrated management of natural and cultural heritage. Pindos Perivallontiki, based in Ioannina, is active in the general Pindos area for the research, management and conservation of the natural and man made environments.
The Institute of Nature Conservation in Albania is based in Tirana and is an environmental organization for the conservation of the natural environment and biodiversity in Albania and other neighbouring countries. The Forest Dorectrate in Permet is a public body tasked with the protection and management of the the forest resources of the Permet area.
The creation of the Ecomuseum lasted two years from march 2012 to February 2014. We hope that the project will impact positively on the cross-border area on a socio-cultural, economic and environmental level, and that the experience of working together on it will help to improve communication between people living on both sides of the border, also contributing to the emergence of new collaborations in the future.
